ECO-FRIENDLY
Here it’s all about Eco-Friendly Diving
What can I do?
Environmental awareness begins in the mind. It means questioning your own actions and becoming aware of their impact on nature and the environment. This includes understanding the connections between humans and ecosystems – thinking globally, acting locally. Many vacation destinations lack a functioning waste disposal system. Inorganic waste such as plastic, batteries, or cosmetic packaging should therefore be taken home and disposed of properly there. Reusable drinking water bottles and cloth bags help to avoid single-use plastic. It is also important to use fresh water sparingly. Unnecessary rinsing of diving equipment should be avoided. The purchase of animal souvenirs is taboo, as is disregarding nature and species protection regulations. Environmentally conscious diving requires good buoyancy control and appropriate diving techniques. Collecting shells, snails, or coral, as well as feeding fish, should be avoided. Underwater, we behave as guests and leave no trace. With the El Quseir Charter, divers actively commit themselves to protecting coral reefs and to taking responsibility for the sea and future generations.
El Quseir Charter
The El Quseir Charter was developed as a guideline for responsible and sustainable diving tourism in the Red Sea. It arose from a growing awareness that sensitive marine ecosystems can only be preserved in the long term through joint action. The aim of the charta is to sensitize divers, diving centers, and tour operators to treat the underwater world with respect.
The focus is on clear rules of conduct for- the protection of corals and marine life
- the prevention of damage, and
- the conscious use of natural resources.
- promotes environmental awareness above and below the water and
- combines ecological responsibility with practical applicability in everyday
- diving.
It is considered an important milestone for marine conservation in the Red Sea and makes a sustainable contribution to preserving this unique habitat for future generations.
Our Partners
HEPCA
The protection of the Red Sea has been a central part of our philosophy since SUBEX was founded. Even in the early days of the diving industry in Egypt, Johann Vifian, initiator and co-founder of HEPCA, was actively involved in preserving the unique underwater world. HEPCA – the Hurghada Environmental Protection & Conservation Association – is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to the protection and sustainable conservation of marine and terrestrial ecosystems around the Red Sea since the 1990s. Today, HEPCA is internationally recognized as a leading NGO in the field of environmental and marine conservation.
Aquatil
Aquatil is a non-profit organization dedicated to scientific research, protection, and education about aquatic habitats. Its focus is on research projects, scientific diving, environmental and nature conservation, and educational and citizen science initiatives. Aquatil connects science, practice, and the public, working closely with universities, NGOs, and international networks. The aim is to gain in-depth knowledge about oceans, lakes, and other aquatic ecosystems, communicate this knowledge in an understandable way, and raise awareness of the need for sustainable management of the underwater world.
