Salem Express

ABOUT THE SALEM EXPRESS:
The ship was built in 1966 by Frenchmen with a length of 110 meters and width of 18 meters. Over the years, the ship has been sold several times and, accordingly, has changed its name several times.
After being sold to Samatour Shipping Company, the ship received its last name Salem Express in May 1988.
On the night of December 14, 1991, while en route to the Egyptian port city of Safaga, the Salem Express ran aground on the reef Shaab Sheer during a storm and sprung a leak. The ship had large open decks and sank in a matter of minutes. It is still unclear why the captain deviated from the safe shipping route.

PROGRAMM:
We start at 7 o'clock in the morning with transfer to Safaga which is 1 hour drive. Two dives are planned if the weather allows it. During the first dive the wreck is explored from the outside. For the 2nd dive we go inside the wreck. In case we can make only one dive due to weather conditions. The second dive will be made in a nearby reef “Shaab Sheer”. The day ends around 5:00 pm with the return to the hotel or base.
